Maldives won Saff Champion Ship
Maldives has won its first ever South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) championship title in a tense match Saturday night against defending champions India, with a single goal scored in the 87th minute by Mukhtar Naseer.
At Sri Lanka’s Sugathadasa Stadium, packed with an estimated 8,000 Maldivian fans, Maldives fought off an offensive game from the India team to avenge a 1-0 defeat at group stage.
The streets of the capital, Malé, were packed with revelling fans late into Saturday night, whilst Sunday has been declared a national holiday in celebration of the unprecedented victory.
